There is a popular religious hymn that states, “This world is not my home I am just passing through.” This is a very profound statement and one that is worthy of consideration. Many today live as if this world is their permanent home, and fail to realize that this life is just a chapter through which each person must pass before entering the next.
The Bible tells us that there is a better place that awaits the faithful. This place is called heaven. In John 14:1-3, Jesus told His disciples that He was going to go and prepare a place for them. He describe this place as having many mansions. He also promised them that he would come back and take them to this prepared place.
This is why I am glad this world is not my home. I am looking for a better place, where sin dwells not, and where rust nor moth destroy (Matthew 6:19-20) . Thus,
Christ says, “lay up for yourself treasures in heaven.” This is where our focus must be, not on things of the earth, but on things above (Colossians 3:2).
The challenge to us all is this; live this life as a passage way to the next.
